I earnestly wish I were Robin Hood
Not likely for the bows and derring-do
would I become that hero, strong and good
But Marian, oh Marian, for you

I earnestly wish I could shoot a bow
To be a hero and impress the weak
Is not why I would practice shooting so
It's Marian, oh Marian, I seek

But when I wear green tights it's judged so cruel
As to make an outlaw out of me
The hat, the feather, do show me a fool
Does nobody, alas, do you e'er see?

I do it all for my Marian's heart
Perhaps I should have stuck to words, or art
